Green Day have unleashed one final single from their upcoming album Saviors.
Following The American Dream Is Killing Me, Look Ma, No Brains! and Dilemma, today (January 5) the trio – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – share the banging One Eyed Bastard.
And frontman Billie Joe reveals that the tune “started off as just a riff that I had – a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff”.
He continues that: “Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life. That’s the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, ‘That was an awful time.’ Everybody’s got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts – it could be like revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting.”
Saviors is due out January 19. Watch the visualiser for One Eyed Bastard below.
In our world-exclusive interview with the band in the latest print issue – which you can buy now – Green Day excitedly teased all things Saviors, with bassist Mike Dirnt explaining: “I can hear bits of each album on this record, even though it sounds fresh and new. I feel like if there’s any words that always come back to Green Day, it’s energy and melody – and this record has all those things in abundance.”
