Grand Theft Auto VI’s first trailer has officially broken several Guinness World Records already
Soundtracked by Tom Petty’s 1989 song Love Is A Long Road – which has seen a massive hike in streams – GTA VI’s long-awaited first trailer is an online phenomenon…
Guinness World Records have confirmed that the recently-released Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has broken a ton of records already on YouTube.
Unsurprisingly, some 12 years after GTA V’s trailer achieved similar levels of hype, Rockstar Games’ long-awaited follow-up has not only become the most viewed videogame reveal ever, but also the most liked videogame trailer, and even the most viewed video in 24 hours for all things non-music. (At the time of writing, December 7, three days on from its unveiling the trailer has amassed more than 120,000,000 views.)
The late, great Tom Petty’s music has also been impacted, with the legendary Heartbreakers leader’s 1989 track Love Is A Long Road excellently soundtracking the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer and therefore seeing a big hike in streams (in fact, according to the BBC, Spotify have said that they’ve “seen soundtracks skyrocket before, but never like this”).
Tom Petty’s estate on social media said it was an “honour”, following his previous contribution to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with Runnin’ Down A Dream.

In a press statement, Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser says of the new game: “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
