Foo Fighters forced to cut New York show short due to “dangerous weather”

“This f*cking sucks, believe me…” Foo Fighters have shared their disappointment at having to play a cut-down set last night at Citi Field in Queens, New York due to the weather conditions.

Last night (July 17), Foo Fighters kicked off the latest leg of their huge Everything Or Nothing At All Tour in New York – but were forced to play a much shorter set due to circumstances beyond their control.

At Queens baseball stadium Citi Field, the rock legends came up against what they’ve since described as “dangerous weather”, with the venue also posting about a “continued presence of lightning in the area”.

During the gig, Dave Grohl warned fans about an incoming storm 13 songs into the setlist, as the band began to play Learn To Fly. “I just got word from the side of the stage there’s a storm coming in,” he said onstage. “Hold on! Hold on! There’s some lightning and shit like that.

“We’re gonna play as much as we can,” the frontman continued, “until someone says that it’s not safe for you, okay? So just so you know, we’re up here doing our thing for you, until it’s not safe for you! Okay? For the time being, we’re gonna sing this shit right now, alright?”

Then, after finishing Learn To Fly and attempting to play their 14th – and ultimately final – song of the night, Everlong, the Foos were told to stop, with Dave telling the crowd: “This fucking sucks, believe me. If I could do something about it, I would.”

After the gig, Foo Fighters posted the following statement: “We are so disappointed that we were unable to play our full set for tonight’s fantastic crowd at Citi Field. But the safety of our fans, the crew and everyone working in the stadium comes first, so when it was determined that there was no safe way to continue the show in this dangerous weather, we had no choice but to call it a night.”

With a second date at Citi Field scheduled for Friday, July 19, they added: “We’re grateful for every second we were able to play for you and looking forward to seeing you again – maybe as soon as Friday!”
