Dave Grohl Will "Absolutely" Write His Own Memoir One Day

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl says that if ever he were to write a book about his life, he'd want to do it himself.

Given the popularity of his newly-launched Dave's True Stories Instagram account, it's no surprise that people are wanting even more rock'n'roll tales from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl – not only because of his legendary career, but also the knack with which he tells these stories.

And in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dave suggests that more writing could be on the way some day, with the musician being asked if he'll ever sit down one day to write a proper memoir.

"Oh, absolutely," he responds. "You know, years ago I was at a barbecue and I met a book agent, and he said, 'Have you ever considered writing a book?' and I said, 'Well, of course, someday.' And he said, 'It’s really easy – you’ll do four or five hours of interviews and someone else will write it in your voice and it will be great.' And I thought, 'F--- that!'"

Dave explains that his background means that he'd want to do the whole thing himself (when launching his True Stories account, he said that, “My mother was a brilliant English teacher, my father a wicked speechwriter…”), and not leave it in the hands of another journalist.

"I come from a family of writers, and granted I’m a black sheep but I’m not that bad, my God," he continued. "So I figured, you know, if I were to ever write a book, it would be in my hand. I've considered it for f---in' years but A) I never had the time, and B) I never felt like I was ready because every day something happens that I’d love to write about, and I’d hate to write sort of a typical autobiography. So years ago I thought, 'Well, maybe it will just a collection of anecdotes – maybe instead of it just being my life in 300 pages it could be just funny stories.'

"I mean, listen, most rock musicians are great storytellers, this is true," he adds. "Because most rock musicians have spent more than a few hours in the back lounge of a bus spinning yarns, swapping stories about all the different people they’ve gotten wasted with or jammed with. So there aren’t too many rock musicians that are short on great stories."

While a Dave Grohl memoir may still be a while off for now, there should be a new Foo Fighters album on the way this year. Back in March, the frontman teased to Kerrang!, “We just finished another fucking record, and I’m so fucking proud of it. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done.

“I’m fucking excited for people to hear it and I can’t wait to jump on that fucking stage to play it,” he continued. “There are choruses on this record that 50-fucking-thousand people are gonna sing, and it’s gonna bring everyone’s fucking hearts together in that moment. And that’s what it’s all about.”
