Corey Taylor unveils new mask at first Slipknot show in 18 months + here's the setlist
Slipknot returned to the stage at Rocklahoma for the first time in 18 months – and frontman Corey Taylor brought with him a brand-new mask…
Surprise! We've known for a little while now that Corey Taylor has a freaky new Slipknot mask… but he actually debuted it live at Rocklahoma last night (September 4), at the band's first show in 18 months!
While we were very much expecting to have to wait for the ’Knot's next album cycle to see what Corey had conjured up this time, the frontman proudly displayed it onstage for the first time at Pryor, Oklahoma's huge three-day rock fest – which, on Slipknot's headline day, also featured the likes of Anthrax and John 5 on the bill.
During the show – as well as showing off Corey's terrifying new look – the band played a career-spanning set, opening up with We Are Not Your Kind's Insert Coin and Unsainted, before tackling Maggot favourites like Disasterpiece, Wait And Bleed, Eyeless, People = Shit and Surfacing. In May, Corey told Iowa radio station Lazer 103.3 about the evolution of his mask (via Blabbermouth): "…It's important for it to be a reflection of who we are in that music. And I can tell you that the mask I'm working on is very disturbing. It's gonna be hard to look at. And it'll probably be my favourite mask that I've ever put together. It's little bits and pieces of things that have intrigued me, of masks that I've had in the past. And it's gonna have a devil-may-care kind of terror to it, let's put it that way."
A month prior, Corey proudly revealed that his new mask freaked out his wife, and will "fucking scare kids". "It’s so gnarly, dude,” he told Steve‑O. "It’s really uncomfortable; it freaked my wife out. She won’t look at it – and she loves crazy shit like that. She’s just like, 'That’s really bothering me, you need to put that picture away!’”
