SOFT PLAY have announced details of their first new album in six years.
Entitled HEAVY JELLY, the record follows Acts Of Fear And Love from 2018 and is due out on July 19. And as its name suggests it’s all about not taking things too seriously.
“We’re not gonna be the band that leads your protest march really eloquently, but we might be the band that motivates you to go down the gym or start doing something productive and that’s important, too,” explains Laurie Vincent. “What we can do is sing about relatable things and share that with people.”
“Don’t try and be like everyone else,” adds Isaac Holman. “Just do what you want and have fun.”
To coincide with the news of the LP, SOFT PLAY have also shared new single Act Violently, which according to a press release was inspired by the band ‘almost getting hit by a lunatically out-of-control e-scooter’ outside a music studio in Margate.
“The whole walk back to the studio, we were discussing our contempt for e-scooter drivers,” says Laurie. “They should be illegal. They shouldn’t be on the road. They should need a theory test. It was just a rich well to discuss, and the song’s about that.”
